It is incredibly isolating, in a good way, and I felt great satisfaction at the things I accomplished without any other person to witness them. No obvious "hang yourself with a bunch of rope" option so far. Starting with the initial plane crash, the Wilson volleyball you can find, and an un-openable "DeadEx" package. It's like Castaway meets The Forest, where the only enemies are sharks and your own stupidity. I usually stay away from early-access Steam games, but this one intrigued me. I haven't started talking to it yet, but I feel the urge sometimes. I lay down on the bed I built with my own two hands and listen to my fire crackle and the waves crash and the few remaining trees sway, and the grinning blood face on the volleyball stares at me from the corner of shack. Ahh well, cooking for the night is done and it's time for sleep. I check my watch, fancy little thing that it is it monitors all my vitals. Losing my way and not being able to get back to this piece of home I've built out of nothing may be too much for me to bear. If the rain or fog comes, I'm not going anywhere.

I must face the open water tomorrow, as long as the visibility is good. I'm proud of my spear, but I don't know what good it will be against the tiger sharks that swim in the shallows. Perhaps there's something I missed in the wreck of that old fishing boat, about 100 feet out, with the bow just sticking above the waves? That's where I found the machete that made cutting down all these palm trees much easier, but diving into the wreck is another risk, however beautiful the underwater realm may be, it's just another chance to come face-to-face with a shark as I round a corner or come out of a hatch. I've been reluctant to face the open water since my previous exploration attempt ended when an enormous great white nearly capsized my small life raft. In the darkness I can't make out the other islands in the distance, but I know they're out there. With a pile of roasted crab at my feet, another pile of coconuts in a small hollow to my left, and a sturdy little shelter behind me, I feel a degree of contentment for the first time since the plane crash, but it's short-lived as I realize I've nearly depleted the resources of my minuscule island home. The fire crackles in front of me, roasting the crab I caught on a spear I made out of wood from a palm tree, lashings from a yucca plant, and a rock I smashed apart.
